TAXI DRIVER by Yann Legendre
Paris-based designer Yann Legendre brings us this striking print, adapted from his cover to the French edition of the TAXI DRIVER novel!
From Yann-
“In 1974, Paul Schrader begins work on a screenplay that is going to change his life: the story of a young lonely man, Travis Bickle, ex Marines, who tries to escape from his boring life and his loneliness by becoming a cab driver.
This story is partly inspired by his own life and experiences. For developing the story, Schrader start working with a poet very popular in New York back then, Richard Elman.

More talented than Schrader, Elman develops in parallel to the screenplay, a novel, based on the character of Travis Bickle: the journal of this young naive man who discover day after day the violence and the perversion of the New York’s life… He learns the self-defense and start to do his own justice in the streets of Manhattan.”

This limited edition 18″x 24″ 4-color hand-pulled silkscreen art print will be signed and numbered in an edition of only 50 world wide.

Available NOW for purchase HERE.

“Close Attention” by Bernie Wrightson!
The FINAL print in this series of Frankenstein images from the great Bernie Wrightson is quite possibly my personal favorite. The composition and lighting are just perfect, and the line-work in the shading is sublime. The isolation and longing in The Monster’s look is haunting.  Just beautiful.
“Close Attention” measures 20×30, is printed on 130lb Cougar Natural paper, and is signed and numbered by the artist in an edition of only 140 worldwide.  Only 30 copies available for general sale, the remainder are tied up in Subscriptions- of which a tiny bit are still left HERE.
Originally created for an illustrated edition of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, published by Marvel Comics in the early 80′s, it has been our supreme honor to work with Bernie in bringing these images to the silk-screen medium in such a large format.
“Close Attention” will be available for sale on TUESDAY 9/10/13 at 2pm Central time HERE in the Art prints section of the Nakatomi Store.

FLESH EMPIRE Full Show Preview

This Thursday night, here in Austin, Foxing Quarterly and Nakatomi are co-hosting an art event featuring food, music, and the amazing art of YANN LEGENDRE.

You can RSVP for the event on Facebook HERE.

Yann is a French illustrator and designer that was originally brought to our attention by the amazing JAY RYAN back when Nakatomi founder, Tim Doyle, was art directing the Mondo series of posters in 2008.  This brilliant series of illustrations were originally released in France in very small sold-out editions of 10.  Nakatomi is very proud to present these amazing images to a larger audience in a popular edition.

His illustrations have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Perspective Magazine, among others. He is the art director of the French magazine Inculte. And he regularly creates illustrations for Universal Music in London, The Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago, Janus Films, and The Criterion Collection in New York.

Each of these art prints are hand-printed silk-screen images- signed by the artist in numbered editions of 50 each.

These images are extremely powerful and evocative- and represent a unique talent- a singular voice in art that we’ve not seen before in our corner of the silk-screen print collector’s community. Flesh Empire is stark and beautiful, alluring and eerie all at the same time.

Yann has been fantastic to work with on this project and very giving of his time and information. Here’s what the award winning illustrator had to say about this series of images-

“I wanted to explore – how our standards of perception of “Beauty” – in the near future  - are going to change… based on the technology progress, religions, cultures… and how the body is going to react, adapt…  each of these illustrations is an alternative possibility of that.”

Nakatomi is also offering special color variants of the entire series- each only an edition of 10- a variant suggested by Yann as a collaboration between his work and the the Nakatomi print shop- featuring the beautiful randomness of the ‘split fountain’ color blend technique.

Each of these color-blend prints are completely unique- no two are alike. Each are extremely limited- editions are only 10- with only 8 of each being available to the public.

All prints will be available at the event, and any remaining prints will then available the following week on the Nakatomi site.

If you’re in the Austin area, do come out to the event- Information below-

“A Torrent of Light Into Our Dark World” by Bernie Wrightson

This is a special one, folks.

This stunningly beautiful image was created over 30 years ago, but never actually included in the final publication of Bernie Wrightson’s illustrated version of Marry Shelley’s Frankenstein.

Only printed once in the rarely seen and long out-of-print “The Lost Frankenstein” paperback from 20 years ago, this masterpiece is relatively obscure (undeservedly so) compared to the rest of this body of work.

The final print measures 20×30 and is signed and numbered in an edition of only 160. There are no AP copies of this print in existence. 110 of these prints are already shipped out to subscribers of the Frankenstein Series, leaving us only 50 copies to sell to the general public.

At the time of this writing Subscriptions are still available HERE. If this print sells out upon release, Full Subscriptions will no longer be available.

“A Torrent of Light Into Our Dark World” will be available on the Nakatomi site at 2PM Central Time in the store pages HERE.

On a personal note, we’re completely impressed with how amazing Bernie has been to work with on this project- the man is a living legend, and yet he’s always accessible and kind- a true gentleman in every regard.

Also- his studio has a bunch of skulls in it, and that’s pretty rad and a little scary. Bonus!
