Robert again was asked to work closely with THE MOUNTAIN GOATS’ John Darnielle to create two new tour posters for their just wrapped ‘Nameless Dark’ tour. Both prints are 18×24 silkscreens, signed and numbered by Robert in editions of 500 each. Nakatomi and Robert will only have 25 of these for sale, as the other 475 sold out on tour! (Crazy!)

You can get them HERE.

Spiderwoman and me- age 4.

This was taken at the Sanger-Harris store at the newly opened Collin Creek Mall in Plano, Texas back in 1981. I remember the taking of this photograph very clearly.

The mall opening was a pretty big deal, and for some reason, Sanger-Harris paid the Dallas Times Herald and Marvel Comics to do a promotional comic book (pictured above) about the opening of the mall. This was part of the same Times-Herald Promotion that brought about ‘The X-Men at the State Fair of Texas’ comic book around the same time.

But yes- that is 4 year old me. And my course was set from that point forward. All nerd- all the time.

MUCHO MACHISMO!

New prints by Nakatomi regulars Nick Derington and Jon Smith from the hit MUCHO MACHISMO art show from SpokeArt Oakland in September!

You can read more HERE.

COMIC COVER SKETCHES! My local comic shop, Austin Books and Comics wanted me to do some cover doodles for them to sell in-store, and I had a brand new set of COPIC markers burning a hole in my brain, begging to be used, so I decided to give it a whirl! I thought I’d do a couple and call it quits, but I’m really having a blast making these!  Lots of fun.  The trick is to do them fast enough so you can sell them for a reasonable price, but the markers are so damn cool, I keep noodling with ‘em…

Anatomy of a screenprint-

This new CROW print by artist James Flames will be on sale on the Nakatomi site at 2pm Central Time on Wednesday the 12th, in the ART PRINTS SECTION of the Nakatomi store.

What we’re looking at here is each layer of the print as James was laying down the colors! The last layer is Glow in the Dark- the whole run is a glow edition!

Go HERE for more info about the on-sale, and see you all on the site on Wednesday to pick one up!

Here’s a detail sneaky-peek image from a new print by JAMES FLAMES for Nakatomi that we should be releasing next week! The whole edition is a GLOW IN THE DARK run!

I was contacted by the fine folks at Toddland, and they offered to me any number of licensees they were working with to produce a print for them at SDCC. Out of a dizzying array of options (some really, really big licenses) I picked YO GABBA GABBA as it’s the best freaking kids show on TV right now. And, it doesn’t hurt that I watch about an episode or two a day w/ my kiddos.  This 18x24 7 color print will be at their booth at Comic-Con and if any are left over, they’ll be on the Toddland site.  There is a glow in the dark variant of only 30 that will be there as well!  If you can’t tell, I was in a serious MOEBIUS kind of mood while working on this print.

Shaky Kane comes to NAKATOMI!

We’ve been fans of Shaky Kane since we saw the cover to Bulletproof Coffin #1 (written by David Hine and Drawn by Shaky) screaming out at us on the shelf during our weekly trip to the comic shop. We immediately said “WHAT THE HELL IS THAT AND HOW MANY CAN I BUY?”

Backtracking through Shaky’s catalog brought us to the amazing ‘Monster Truck’ with it’s strange, pop-surrealist landscapes rendered in flat, day-glow colors- which are perfect for screenprinting. That’s when we here at Nakatomi realized we had to publish his work as prints. HAD. TO.

We tracked down the elusive artist, who lived far away in the little known GREAT BRITAIN and after much bribery and horse-trading, he agreed to let us!

SO- Tuesday 7/2 around 2pm Central Standard Time (CST), we will release this print “THE HATEFUL DEAD” as well as a limited edition T-shirt available only on the site!  The print measures 18×24, is limited to 100 hand-numbered copies, and comes with a 4×6 ‘Certificate of Reality’ signed by Shaky Kane himself!

Available in a black and silver 100% ringspun cotton t-shirt, Nakatomi will only have 100 of each for sale!

Shirts and Prints will be listed for sale around 2PM CST on Nakatomi HERE, or by searching ‘Shaky’ in the store!
